Orpheus, or, Narcissus in Mirror Land

#doorbell
  1. Performed by: András Pál, Kata Pető

The lead of the play is a middle-aged alcoholic who for years has lived in a hell of his own creation: the regulars call him Orpheus. His dreams and the visions he has in near-delirious states often mix up with reality. One day he has to face up to the fact that he either takes the seemingly impossible decision or dies soon: he has to acknowledge that he is ill, helpless, and needs to ask for help.
Using diary entries, poems and rap lyrics, the production traces his journey through hell. From a chaotic jungle populated by mistresses, loves and drinking pals, the path leads to icy solitude, whence he must return to reality to be able to believe he is a loveable, valuable person. The script relies on the statements, stories and creations of recovered alcoholics and drug abusers.

Theater performance in Hungarian.
