Downtown CAFe – Breaking away from the comfort zone

Akvárium Klub and CAFe Budapest launched their joint series of club events, the DownTown CAFe, two years ago. The featured groups and formations, the side projects of well-known performing artists, share a commitment to experimentation and improvisation, and they all hope their audience will bring a similar willingness to experiment and to be open-minded – the courage to leave their comfort zone.
“It’s all based on an old dream of mine,” introduces saxophonist and keyboardist Viktor Kapusi the band. “A dream of a band that covers a wide range of musical styles. A classical trumpeter, for whom jazz and free music are home turf. A drummer who can play hip hop, metal and jazz with the same precision, ease and smashing power. A guitarist whose performance style and improvisational idiom are so original a single note will let you identify him. And a bassist I can trust more than anyone – who since childhood has been my partner in composition, improvisation, arrangement and throwing ideas around.”
