Elek István Quartet feat. Kristóf Bacsó

Elek István Quartet feat. Kristóf Bacsó

István Elek has performed solo duties in a great many bands throughout a career of four decades, but his own quartet made its debut only a few years ago. All four members are top-ranking musicians. The band leader himself plays a complete arsenal of wind instruments, the tenor saxophone being his main weapon, but he is no stranger to the clarinet, the alto, the soprano and the baritone saxophone either.

István Elek started to teach at the Jazz Programme of the Liszt Academy in 2001, and you can also hear some of his students at the concert, the young and talented Márton Almássy, Zsolt Magda, Miklós Hoffer and Balázs Raboczki. Besides special arrangements (“saxophone quintet a cappella,” “saxophone duel”), all four instruments of the saxophone family can be heard, with evergreens providing the musical base.
