Fictitious Lines

Fictitious Lines

Most often, by border we mean a geopolitical “unit,” which divides geographical space into states, territories with their own flags. Border may also have less concrete senses; they may be symbolic, or very mutable, like social boundaries that circumscribe our interpersonal relations and attitudes to communities.
The complexity of the administrative lines between the East European countries has changed considerably over the decades that preceded the political transition, as well as during the thirty years since then. The border crossing points, which became functionless with these countries joining the Schengen Agreement, are evocative testimonies to these changes.
Fictitious Lines is a group exhibition that seeks to characterize the diversity and complexity of the subject with the means of art.

The exhibition is on view between 4–25 October.
